Disneyland Paris to host Dota 2 major

The Dota Pro Circuit's fourth major of the season will be hosted by Disneyland Paris from May 4-12, organizer Mars Media announced Thursday.

The best-performing teams in six online regional qualifiers will compete at the Disney Events Arena, which has a capacity for 6,300 spectators.

This marks the first time that Mars Media has hosted its flagship event outside of China.

"We couldn't have hoped for a better place and partner," Mars Media CEO Zhang Yu said in a statement. "We are looking forward to collaborating with Disneyland Paris, which marks our first, but not last, foray into the Western esports market."

This is Dota 2's first event in France, but it's not Disney's first venture into esports.

On its Disney XD pay television service, the company has shown the Overwatch League and Injustice 2 Pro Series Grand Finals. It also hosted the League of Legends Open Tour France in December at Disneyland Paris.

"Disneyland Paris will host the best teams in the world for nine days, promising our visitors a spectacular one-of-a-kind experience," said Aymeric Magne, director of Disneyland Paris Event Group. "This new event will further consolidate Disneyland Paris' position as a go-to destination for live events as well as a major esports partner in Europe."

At the most recent Dota major in January, Team Secret defeated Virtus.pro in the final of the $1 million event held in Chongqing, China.

The next major will be the $1 million DreamLeague Season 11, scheduled for March 14-24 at Stockholm, Sweden.
