The Fortnite Champion Series, which begins Aug. 17, will include competitive payments totaling more than $10 million across all regions and competitions, developer Epic Games announced on Friday.

A three-round trios event will be held each weekend for five weeks beginning next week, with the top teams from each region each week advancing to the Season X finals. Qualifying will also include top performers on the series leaderboard with series points awarded for each team's final placement during the FNCS on a weekly basis.

The Season X champion will be determined during the season finals, which will include each region and will be held online from Sept. 20-22.

More practice opportunities and prizes will be available during separate Solo and Trios Cash Cups that will be held each week from Wednesday through Friday.

Last month, more than 2 million people tuned in to watch 16-year-old Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf from Pottsgrove, Penn., win the $3 million grand prize in the Fortnite World Cup in New York, the largest cash prize for a single player in an event in esports history.

More than 100 players competed in the tournament, which offered $30 million in total prize money.
