Griffin and G2 Esports easily advanced to the League of Legends World Championship quarterfinals by finishing in the top two spots in Group A on Friday in Berlin.

For seeding purposes, Griffin claimed the group's top position by winning a tiebreaker match against G2 after each side went 5-1 in the double round robin. Both teams join FunPlus Phoenix and Splyce, who finished first and second, respectively, in Group B, in the knockout stage.

The event features 16 teams divided into four groups for a double round robin of single-game matches. The top two teams in each group advanced to the best-of-five quarterfinals, which run Oct. 26-27 in Madrid.

In Friday action, Griffin defeated Cloud9 and Hong Kong Attitude before beating G2 to avenge a head-to-head loss on Sunday. Griffin then took down G2 again in the tiebreaker.

Before falling twice to Griffin, G2 topped Hong Kong Attitude and Cloud9 on Friday.

Cloud9 (2-4) beat Hong Kong Attitude (0-6) to finish third in the group.
