Evil Geniuses announced Wednesday that they have signed Dominique "SonicFox" McLean, who is recognized as one of the greatest competitors of all time in the Fighting Game Community. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.

"I'm excited to join EG because now I can enable the anti-hero side of me hella hard," SonicFox told ESPN. "EG are all about living outside of the norm and standing up for those that don't have a voice, which is something I embody and stand for every day. I can't wait to see all the things we can do together."

SonicFox is well known as a formidable competitor across multiple FGC titles, including Mortal Kombat and DragonBall FighterZ. Their Liquipedia entry looks like Scrooge McDuck's vault in DuckTales, full of gold bars. Most recently, they won Final Kombat 11 in March in Chicago.

SonicFox previously represented Echo Fox and was one of the last high-profile competitors tied to the brand, which dissolved last year following legal turmoil between the franchise's co-founder, Rick Fox, and its shareholders. Another former member of Echo Fox, Smash Ultimate competitor and Evolution Championship Series champion Leonardo "MKLeo" Lopez Perez, signed with T1 in late February.

A five-time Evo champion, SonicFox, who identifies as a black, nonbinary furry, has consistently used their voice to bring awareness to civil rights.

"Joining EG has enabled me to continue being true to myself and to deliver that message to an even wider community," SonicFox said. "When the world's crazy, it's important to never lose sight of who you are, and I hope that I can speak to anyone who's struggling and encourage them to embrace what makes them unique."

Joining SonicFox in signing with Evil Geniuses is Jon "dekillsage" Coello, who also comes from the now defunct Echo Fox brand. Dekillsage placed first at Thunderstruck 2019 in September 2019.

"I'm really looking forward to competing and making content for a strong team like EG and learning how to Live Evil," dekillsage said.

With the move, Evil Geniuses almost doubles their FGC roster. The stable also includes Capcom Cup runner-up Ricki Ortiz, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 EVO Champion Christopher "NYChrisG" Gonzalez and Smash Melee competitor Kevin "PPMD" Nanney. EG also competes in League of Legends LCS, DOTA 2, CS:GO, Rainbow Six: Siege and Fortnite.
