Feel unprepared for your fantasy basketball draft? Well, you're not alone. It's common to enter the draft room without feeling like you have everything figured out for upcoming season.

There is good news, however -- to give yourself a stronger chance of assembling a winning team, it doesn't require a ton of time or work like some people think. All it takes is a game plan. One of the best things you can do is take part in an ESPN mock draft or two to get a feel for where players are being selected (in snake drafts) or how much they are going for (in salary-cap drafts).

This step alone gives you a big leg up on the competition.

Getting a good sense of the quality and the depth of talent at each position is key, because throughout the draft you and your fellow fantasy managers will be confronted with difficult decisions. Knowing which players and positions to focus on early in the draft and which you can hold off on until the middle or later rounds is a big advantage for those who put in that little extra effort. Hint: power forward and center are the deepest positions this season, with point guard next on the list.

I encourage you to take some time and create your own draft tiers. If you prefer, though, you can use mine as a starting point.

Here are my draft tiers for players at their primary position for standard roto leagues heading into the 2020-21 NBA season:
