Barcelona's Sergi Roberto, Andre Gomes sidelined through injury

Barcelona have been dealt a double injury setback with confirmation that they will be without Sergi Roberto and Andre Gomes for the next month.

Midfielder Roberto was taken off with a hamstring strain during Tuesday's goalless draw with Olympiakos in the Champions League and tests on Wednesday showed he will be sidelined for five weeks.

Gomes, who finished the game in Athens after replacing Denis Suarez late on, will be out for three to four weeks with a thigh problem, the club confirmed.

Both will miss Saturday's La Liga game against Sevilla and matches with their respective countries, Spain and Portugal, during the forthcoming international break.

Barca will then face Leganes and Juventus without them later this month but should have Gomes back for the game against his former side, Valencia, on Nov. 26.

The trip to Mestalla is followed by three home games in a row against Real Murcia, Celta Vigo and Sporting Lisbon, the latter of which, on Dec. 5, Roberto may hope to be back for.

Roberto has been one of Barcelona's most in-form players in recent weeks playing as a right-back, but he returned to midfield against Olympiakos as he made his 10th start of the campaign.

However, his recent progress was stopped in its tracks when he picked up the injury at the end of the first half when he stayed down after earning a booking for a foul on Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe.

Injuries have been fairly kind to Ernesto Valverde's Barca so far this season but they are now facing a personnel shortage in midfield.

Captain Andres Iniesta is currently sidelined with a thigh strain and Ousmane Dembele, Rafinha, Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal also have fitness problems.

With Roberto and Gomes added to that list, the Catalan side are left with just Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Paulinho and the more attack-minded Denis Suarez as midfield options.

Valverde, therefore, may dip into the B team, with Carles Alena a player who trains regularly with the first team and made his first start of the season in last week's Copa del Rey win against Murcia.
