Bayer Leverkusen's Kevin Kampl may miss rest of season with injury

Kevin Kampl is unlikely to play for Bayer Leverkusen again this season after tests revealed he has suffered a leg fracture.

Kampl, 25, picked up the problem more than a week ago in the 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund and missed his side's 3-1 loss to Mainz on Sunday with what was initially diagnosed as a muscular injury.

However, further tests carried out on Monday revealed greater damage than first feared with the Slovenia international's lower leg placed in plaster as a result.

Leverkusen have given no indication as to how long Kampl will be sidelined for, or when he will have the plaster cast removed, but a return before the end of the season is unlikely.

The midfielder had been an almost ever-present for Leverkusen this season before the injury following his move from Dortmund last summer.
