Sky understands that the Clarets have bid £15 million for the Ivorian winger, which would make him their joint-record transfer. The 24-year-old would be a major coup for Sean Dyche and Co. as he has been a mainstay for Lyon in Ligue 1 over the past six seasons and has even starred in the Champions League.
The Irish Independent understands that the veteran midfielder, now 37, has been offered a chance to join League Two outfit Bristol Rovers. The move would see the former Republic of Ireland midfielder link up with his former Man City teammate Joey Barton, who he also played under last season with Fleetwood Town.
"They've been training with us this week, Leon Clarke and Glen Whelan. They came in this week so we could have a look at them," Barton said.
"Obviously, they're still on the open market and we had a good week, I think they're going to come and join us next week and then we've obviously got a deadline looming and again we've got to make sure we clear some players out because we've got a lot of players whose futures aren't going to be here and it's only fair on those guys if we explore all avenues."
The ex-Barcelona man has established himself as one of the top young midfielders in La Liga in recent years and debuted for Spain in June against Lithuania. Graham Potter's Seagulls will reportedly pay Getafe around €18 million for the 23-year-old, which would be a record transfer for the Spanish cub.

The Uruguay international joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018 and said in March that he wanted to move to Argentine giants Boca Juniors to be closer to his family after the death of his mother from COVID-19.
15.15 BST: Manchester United are still interested in Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga although a move to Old Trafford is viewed as "unlikely," sources have told ESPN's Rob Dawson.
Reports in France over the weekend suggested Camavinga has played his last game for Rennes with the Ligue 1 club keen to cash in on the midfielder before the end of his contract.
Camavinga, capped three times by France, has a year left on his deal and will be available on a free transfer in 2022.
United are interested in the 18-year-old, although the feeling at Old Trafford is that he would prefer to stay in France with Paris Saint-Germain or move to Spain.
14.51 BST: Bayern Munich chairman Herbert Hainer says that the club won't extend Robert Lewandowski's contract yet.
Lewandowski, 33, has a contract which expires in 2023 and has been linked with a move to Man United, Chelsea and Real Madrid. Bayern won't let him move this summer, but also aren't thinking about adding any extra years to his deal at this point.
"We're happy with Robert. But we don't have to extend the contract now, we still have two years," Hainer said. "As I said, I can imagine Robert staying beyond 2023. We're in permanent talks with all our players, including Lewy. But now is still early."
14.22 BST: Atletico Madrid are "very close" to landing Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha, sources have told ESPN's Alex Kirkland and Rodrigo Faez, after reports in Germany this morning that a €30m move had been agreed.
The LaLiga club had previously been keen on a deal to sign Rafa Mir from Wolves before he joined Sevilla, and had also been linked with Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic as well as a return for Barcelona's Antoine Griezmann.
Coach Diego Simeone admitted on Sunday that he wanted to bring in a No. 9 this week to give him an alternative to 34-year-old Luis Suarez, saying "when we plan a squad it's to have two players in each position and obviously we need a player. We'll look for what can arrive."
Cunha would occupy one of the non-EU places in Atletico's squad, meaning young Argentinian defender Nehuen Perez is expected to leave.

However, the report claims the sticking point is the personal terms, with Zouma wanting a big pay rise to earn around £125,000-a-week.
13.33 BST: AS Roma's new boss Jose Mourinho has started life well at the club. He moved on to 50 Serie A wins in the fastest time with a 3-1 success over Fiorentina on Sunday.
Back in Italy for a second spell, having steered Inter Milan to the treble in 2010, the victory in his first Roma match means Mourinho has reached 50 Serie A successes in the fastest time for a coach in the three points for a win era - since 1994-95.
His record of 50 wins in 77 Serie A matches is bettered by his return in Spain's LaLiga -- 50 victories from 62 games -- and England's Premier League - 50 successes in 63 outings. He holds the fastest to 50 record in all three leagues, but chose to make light of his achievement.

13.05 BST: Man United's Paul Pogba in a win-win scenario over his future and his excellent form is coming from playing with such freedom, writes Mark Ogden.
The former Juventus star was one of the standout players at Euro 2020 earlier this summer, when those of a cynical perspective might have suggested he was performing to impress clubs such as Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, who have both held a long-term interest in signing him. But the alternative view is that Pogba has reached an age and maturity that ensures more consistency and responsibility in his game, and he has carried his international form onto the club stage with United during the early days of the new Premier League season.
Perhaps he is playing with the freedom that comes with knowing his destiny is firmly in his own hands now that he has fewer than 12 months to run on his United contract? Pogba is in the fortunate position where every potential scenario suits him and can be viewed as a win-win situation.
He can run down his contract and leave United as a free agent next summer; he can sign a lucrative new long-term deal at Old Trafford before the end of the season; he could even leave for a new club before the transfer deadline at 11 p.m. BST on Aug. 31. And there is also the possibility of assessing his options as a free agent next year and deciding to stay at United by signing whatever terms are offered.
However he chooses to roll the dice, Pogba ends up as a winner, so it's no wonder that he is playing with so much freedom alongside fellow midfield creator Bruno Fernandes at United.

12.26 BST: The BBC reports that Wolves are expecting a bid from Tottenham for winger Adama Traore before the window closes.
Traore, 25, played under Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves and has impressed in the Premier League in recent seasons.
Rubin Kazan's 20-year-old Georgia international Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and PSV attacking midfielder Noni Madueke are other potential options for Tottenham, according to Sky Sports.
12.12 BST: The Athletic reports that Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is being tracked by Crystal Palace.
Nketiah, 22, has 13 goals in 65 games since breaking into the first team but hasn't cemented his place and looks unlikely to extend a contract that ends in 2022.
The report says that "Brighton explored recruiting as part of the deal that took Ben White in the opposite direction for £50m earlier this month" and adds that "Palace are believed to be ready to pay around £10m."
However, Arsenal are looking for a fee of around £20m, with clubs from Germany also reportedly interested.
11.44 BST: Cristian Romero says Lionel Messi wanted him to sign for Barcelona this summer before he joined Tottenham on loan from Atalanta.
Mundo Deportivo reported in July that Messi had urged Barca to make a move for his Argentina international teammate and Romero has appeared to confirm that was true in an interview with Radio AM 550 over the weekend.
"The fact that Messi would want me in his team and that he wanted me to come to Barcelona is amazing," the centre-back said.
However, neither have ended up at Barca this season. After Romero joined Spurs on a season-long loan, Messi left the Catalan club after they announced they could not afford to formalise the new contract they had agreed with him and moved to PSG on a free transfer.
"The team PSG have built is crazy," Romero added. "I'm a bit sad about how Leo left Barcelona, I thought he would have stayed there forever. But I wish him all the best, he's a great person and hopefully he can win everything alongside the other Argentinians there."
11.26 BST: Serie A clubs continue to jostle for Barcelona's Miralem Pjanic, with sources telling ESPN they expect the midfielder to leave Camp Nou before the transfer window closes.
Sources said that Napoli have become the latest Italian side to enquire about Pjanic, who has not featured in either of Barca's LaLiga matches this season.
ESPN previously reported that Juventus and AC Milan have also held talks with the Bosnia & Herzegovina international's camp, while reports elsewhere claim Inter and Fiorentina have also shown an interest.
Pjanic's preferred move is a return to Juve, whom he left for Barca last summer, but a source said that as of Monday he will listen to other offers. Coach Massimiliano Allegri would like to be reunited with the midfielder but the Turin club's failure to move on Aaron Ramsey makes the financial side of the deal difficult.
Barca, meanwhile, will open the door for Pjanic to leave the club. He's hardly featured under Ronald Koeman and believes a return to Italy, likely on loan, will be best for his career at 31.
11.07 BST: Barcelona will let Samuel Umtiti leave the club for free this month if he's prepared to accept one of the offers he has on the table, according to Diario Sport.
Umtiti is Barca's sixth-choice centre-back and ESPN has reported throughout the summer that the Catalan club are keen to get his salary off the wage bill.
Diario Sport claim the French defender wants to move to a Champions League club, although at the moment he only has offers from Nice, Monaco and Roma.
Monaco could yet qualify for the Champions League if they turn things around against Shakhtar Donetsk this week, while Roma are only in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Nice are not involved in European football.
ESPN reported that French sides Rennes and Lille have also shown an interest in the former Lyon centre-back.

10.21 BST: Sky Germany reports that Atletico Madrid have agreed a €30m move to sign Hertha Berlin striker Matheus Cunha.
Matheus Cunha, 22, helped Brazil to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics this summer and netted eight goals in 28 games for Hertha last season.
Everton reportedly tried to hijack the deal late on, but the striker wants to move to LaLiga.
09.58 BST: The Times reports that West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice "plans to rebuff any offers of a new contract" in the hope of sealing a big to a bigger club in the near future.
Rice, 22, starred for England at Euro 2020 and still has three years left on his contract. The Hammers are keen to extend his terms until 2025 and want around £100m from any clubs looking to sign him this summer.
Chelsea and Manchester United have shown the most interest, while Man City are also considering him as a replacement for the 36-year-old Fernandinho.
09.35 BST: Kylian Mbappe is on Manchester United's list of potential targets as they plot a move for a big-name forward next summer, sources told ESPN's Rob Dawson.
United are open to the possibility of adding another player to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad in this transfer window, with the club holding an interest in the central midfield and right-back position ahead of the Aug. 31 deadline.
United are also building for the future, and plan to sign a centre-forward in the 2022 summer window with Solskjaer and the recruitment team drawing up a list of options. Mbappe is one of the options on the table, along with Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland, Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.
Mbappe has entered the final year of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and United are maintaining a watching brief on his situation. Real Madrid officials openly discussed the possibility of signing the 22-year-old, who has also been linked with Liverpool, this summer during the negotiations for the transfer of Raphael Varane from the Bernabeu to Old Trafford. A source said that Madrid required funds generated from Varane's departure for their "Project Mbappe" initiative, though the LaLiga side privately admit a transfer this summer is unlikely.
09.19 BST: Brighton & Hove Albion's Solly March has signed a new three-year contract with the club.
March, 27, celebrated his decade at the club by putting pen to paper on a deal that runs until 2024.
Seagulls manager Graham Potter said of the wing-back, who has made more than 200 appearances for the club: "I am really pleased to see Solly commit his future here, he is a pleasure to work with and it's great to see him continue to progress.
"As a local lad he is a great role model and excellent example for any young player with his commitment and hard work. He's a player who makes a significant impact for us at both ends of the pitch, and we are delighted he's committed his long-term future to the club."
08.55 BST: Bayern Munich have announced that midfielder Joshua Kimmich has signed a contract extension committing him to the Bundesliga champions until 2025.
Germany international Kimmich has won 17 trophies since he joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2015 including six league titles, three DFB-Pokals and the Champions League in 2019-20.
The 26-year-old told the club's website: "The most important reason for my contract extension is that I can pursue my passion with joy every day here at FC Bayern. I have a team where I can achieve everything, and a lot of teammates have become real friends. That's why I started playing football in the first place, because it should be fun.
"I still don't think I'm at the end of my development and I'm convinced there's a lot possible at FC Bayern in the next years. On top of that, my family feels at home here. Munich has become a second home. The combination we have here isn't found all over the world."
08.38 BST: Xherdan Shaqiri is close to joining Lyon after the French club announced they have an agreement in principle to sign the Liverpool midfielder.
Shaqiri, 29, signed for Liverpool in 2018 in a £13m transfer from Stoke City, but has never been able to hold down a place in Jurgen Klopp's first team. The Switzerland international is now set to leave Anfield after scoring seven goals and registering five assists in 45 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, starting just 18 of those games.
Lyon said in a statement published on Sunday evening: "Olympique Lyonnais is pleased to have finally reached an agreement in principle with Liverpool for the transfer of the Swiss international midfielder, Xherdan Shaqiri, who was a key figure for his country at this summer's European Championship.
"Shaqiri, who is encouraged by the OL project, will arrive in Lyon tonight where he will be welcomed by Juninho. The finalisation of the transfer remains conditional on the result of the medical examination that the player will pass this Monday morning and the finalisation of the last administrative formalities."
08.00 BST: Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped to the bench for Juventus' 2-2 draw against Udinese in their Serie A opener Sunday, amid speculation surrounding his future at the club.
Ronaldo eventually came on as a substitute, introduced on 60 minutes for Alvaro Morata, in a chaotic ending to the match that saw the Portugal international see yellow for excessive celebration after he thought he'd scored the match winner only for VAR to rule it out for offside.
According to Sky Italy, Ronaldo requested to not start the match. ESPN has reached out to Ronaldo's representatives for comment.
Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri dismissed reports on Saturday claiming Ronaldo could leave Turin this summer, claiming the former Real Madrid player had told him he was going to stay.

- Fabrizio Romano reports there is a new bid coming from Chelsea to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. The France international has been the subject of interest from numerous clubs this season, but it is believed that the Spanish club will turn down any late bids that leave little time to target a replacement. The 22-year-old remains a key feature of the Sevilla squad and started in the season opener against Rayo Vallecano.
- Internazionale will focus their efforts on Joaquin Correa as the Serie A champions continue to search for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku. Calciomercato writes that the Italian club have cooled their interest in Borussia Monchengladbach's Marcus Thuram, which has propelled Lazio star Correa to the top of the shortlist. The 27-year-old scored eight times in 25 Serie A appearances last season.
- Marseille have identified Alexander Sorloth as a potential replacement for Dario Benedetto. That's according to Le10 Sport, which says that Marseille's president is looking to bring the RB Leipzig forward to France. The 25-year-old striker has been on the radar of a number of clubs this summer, and it looks as though the Ligue 1 side will continue their summer spending after Benedetto joined Elche.
- Davide Zappacosta's time in the Premier League looks to be over with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that a move to Atalanta is close. The Chelsea defender has struggled to gain first-team football at Stamford Bridge since the emergence of Reece James and, despite talk of a loan move to Fiorentina, it now looks as though Atalanta have won the race to sign the attacking right-back. The 29-year-old made three substitute appearances for Chelsea in pre-season.
- Corriere dello Sport writes that Napoli have made official contact with Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic, as the Serie A side are keen on challenging Juventus for his signature. The report claims that Luciano Spalletti telephoned Pjanic in an attempt to persuade him to Naples.
