Tottenham were unable to respond to Liverpool's early goal in a slow and ponderous game as they lost the Champions League final 2-0, despite the return of Harry Kane from injury.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring after a contentious handball from Moussa Sissoko before Divock Origi sealed the win late on as Spurs' lack of match action in the last three weeks showed in the Madrid heat.
Positives
A late flurry of chances saw Spurs attempt to make up for a slow start but there were few positives to hold on to after a wonderful run to the final. A solid and brave team performance but not enough to edge Liverpool for the victory.
Negatives
A lack of clear-cut chances in the first half left Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson without a save to make as Liverpool's defence kept Spurs at arm's length. Harry Kane and Dele Alli were anonymous. Things changed after the break Alisson was called into action but their chances were too few and far between.

5 -- Mauricio Pochettino made a huge decision in starting Kane that didn't pay off. The manager tried to inject more attacking threat through his positive substitutions and Spurs rallied as a result, but he will be left wondering "What if?"

GK Hugo Lloris, 5 -- Was not given a chance to settle due to the early penalty and looked shaky with Liverpool seeking to test him regularly, although he did well to collect a teasing ball from Andrew Robertson that would have played Sadio Mane in on goal.
DF Kieran Trippier, 6 -- Had a lot to deal with facing Andy Robertson but managed to produce the cross for one of Spurs' best chances, which Dele Alli headed over.
DF Toby Alderweireld, 6 -- Long balls over the top did not trouble Liverpool's defence, and he managed to limit the attacking threat. Unable to prevent Divock Origi from scoring the second goal for Liverpool.
DF Jan Vertonghen, 6 -- Largely coped well with the threat of Mohamed Salah and looked comfortable.
DF Danny Rose, 6 -- A solid display and often ventured forward in an effort to make a difference, which culminated in him winning a late free kick off James Milner on the edge of the box. Creatively turned a Robertson cross behind for a corner with his shoulder.
MF Moussa Sissoko, 7 -- Poor decision-making in giving away the early penalty, but to his credit he attempted to make amends and put in another impressive performance in defence and breaking forward before being substituted with a knock.
MF Harry Winks, 7 -- Stood out in midfield, keeping possession and turning it over for Spurs on his return from injury. The 23-year-old looked assured on the ball and was unlucky to be withdrawn as Pochettino chased a way back into the game.
MF Christian Eriksen, 5 -- Could not find the space to make a telling difference offensively and was found wanting in defence, in particular in the second half as Mane went one-on-one and beat him easily. His free kick towards the end was on target but Alisson did well to parry away the danger.
FW Dele Alli, 5 -- Far from his best game, he struggled to make an impact and was unable to get a clean shot away when the ball dropped to him early in the second half. Attempted a difficult lobbed effort that summed up his night.
FW Son Heung-Min, 6 -- A lively presence up front, unlike his attacking partners. Son ran and tried to create chances but to little avail. He powered through on 75 minutes to give Virgil van Dijk a scare and forced Alisson into a save with a speculative long-range effort.
FW Harry Kane, 5 -- A quiet start that could be attributed to rustiness, he was often found too deep to really trouble Liverpool's defence, who kept him at arm's length. He failed to up his game in the second half
Substitutes
FW Lucas Moura, 7 -- Introduced on 65 minutes as Spurs looked to chase an equaliser and up their attacking threat. He managed to inject some life into the attack and went close on several occasions.
MF Eric Dier, N/R -- Brought on to shore things up in midfield as Spurs chased an equaliser.
