Lazio captain Stefano Mauri announced on his Facebook page that he is leaving the Rome club this summer after failing to agree on a new contract.
The 35-year-old joined the Biancocelesti in 2006, but he has now called time on almost a decade with the club.

"In my heart I was and I always will be the captain of my beloved Lazio," he wrote. "I've always had a great relationship with the president Lotito. We never, and I stress never had any kind of contractual problems, or for that matter any problems with money. All we ever needed was a shake of hands.
"These days I've spoken a lot with the president and we've agreed mutually to end our professional relationship here, after almost ten amazing years, and to bid farewell with a smile and many tears.
"I will miss everything. I will miss my armband. I will miss my shirt. I will miss my locker. I will miss the scent of Formello [training ground]. I will miss my teammates, of whom I have proudly been captain for many years.
"I will miss all these people who have been part of my daily life for many years and who I will never forget. I will miss your amazing support and your warmth, unique the world over. Thanks from the heart for your support. You helped me smile when all I wanted to do was cry. The Aquila will always be in my heart and I will NEVER stop being one of you.
"With honour, faith and pride, Stefano Mauri. Your captain."
It is not yet clear whether Mauri, who is again part of a match-fixing investigation, will continue his playing career elsewhere.
