Jonathan De Guzman still on course to join Marseille from Napoli

Jonathan De Guzman's move from Napoli to Marseille is still on with both clubs keen to seal the deal quickly.

De Guzman, 27, has had only a bit-part role in Naples since his 2014 move from Villarreal, and has been repeatedly linked with a switch to Marseille this summer.

Though his agent, Fabio Parisi, told Radio CRC no meeting of the clubs had yet been scheduled, he acknowledged an agreement was "very close."

"Naples and Marseille don't want to wait for the last few days of the transfer window to complete the deal. So, this week could be the good one," Parisi said.

Marseille remain without a permanent coach since the shock resignation of Marcelo Bielsa just over a week ago following their opening-game loss to Caen.

One of Bielsa's former assistants, Franck Passi, is in interim charge, overseeing last weekend's 1-0 defeat at Reims, while a host of names, including Walter Mazzari, Cesare Prandelli and Roberto Donadoni have all been mooted as potential appointments.

De Guzman himself insisted whoever the new man in charge is, it would not dissuade him from moving to the Ligue 1 side.

"I don't think he will change the strategy of the club. A lot of names, among them some Italians, have been suggested, but I think the idea to promote Franck Passi, despite the defeat to Reims, doesn't make the situation easier," De Guzman said.

"Marseille is a very interesting club. They haven't started well, but they have great support."
