Manchester City's Sergio Aguero plans Independiente return in 2019

Sergio Aguero has revealed he plans to leave Manchester City when his current contract expires in 2019.

Aguero, 27, wants to finish his career with Independiente, the club he supported as a boy and where he made his first-team debut.

It means the Argentina international has another three-and-a-half years left at the Etihad Stadium before he heads back to his homeland.

"I have always said that I want to return to Independiente and I will do just that," Aguero told So Foot.

"I will return to Independiente when my contract with City expires.

"I do not want to make my comeback when I am too old. If everything goes well, I will return to the club of my heart at the age of 31."

Aguero became the youngest player in the history of the Argentine top flight when he made his Independiente debut in 2003 at just 15.

He scored 23 goals in 56 games for them before moving on to Atletico Madrid in 2006 and then signing for City for £38 million in 2011.

The striker has scored 116 goals in 176 games for City, including the strike that won the Premier League title in 2012, and was the competition's top scorer last season with 26 goals.

In July, Aguero's father, Leonel del Castillo, said the forward will return to Argentina to play for his boyhood club, Independiente, following the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

City are waiting to discover if he will recover from an ankle injury in time to face Stoke on Saturday.
