Schalke announce that they will sign Wolfsburg's Daniel Caligiuri

Schalke have said they will sign midfielder Daniel Caligiuri from Wolfsburg on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Sporting director Christian Heidel said the club had been "looking for a flexible player who can play on the left as well as right, and who knows the Bundesliga."

Heidel added that the move, originally scheduled for the summer, had been brought forward because of an injury to Abdul Baba Rahman.

Caligiuri, 29, joined Wolfsburg from Freiburg in 2013 and has scored 23 goals in 190 Bundesliga games.

Schalke have already signed midfielder Idrissa Toure, forward Guido Burgstaller and defender Holger Badstuber in the transfer window.
