Montreal Impact complete DP signing of Blerim Dzemaili from Bologna

Blerim Dzemaili has completed his move from Bologna and signed a designated player contract with the Montreal Impact.

The move was announced on Tuesday but sealed before the MLS transfer window closed on Monday night, meaning the midfielder will be able to play as soon as he passes a medical and receives a Canadian work permit.

Dzemaili, 31, agreed a designated player contract with Montreal in December, and Bologna allowed him to miss the final games of the Serie A season to move to MLS. Both clubs are run by Joey Saputo, the Impact president and Bologna chairman.

Had Dzemaili finished out the final four games of the season in Italy, he would not have been allowed to play for Montreal until the secondary transfer window opens on July 10.

The Switzerland international scored nine goals in all competitions for Bologna this season and was named their player of the month in both November and January.
