Fiorentina confirm goalkeeper Neto will leave, linked with Juventus

Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto has announced that he will not extend his contract with the Serie A club beyond the end of the season.

A statement on the Viola website confirmed that he had decided to seek a new challenge in the summer, with Juventus reportedly his most likely destination ahead of Liverpool and Roma.

"ACF Fiorentina must announce that goalkeeper Norberto Murara Neto today officially informed the club of his intention not to prolong his contract with the Viola. The decision is definitive," the statement read.

"Neto was keen to make it known that his decision is entirely unrelated to financial motivations, with his desire to be free to decide his own future the sole reason behind his move."

His announcement led to protests among Viola fans, with a banner pinned up at the club's training ground reading: "Protected, cuddled, defended -- for Neto, all of this meant nothing."

He is also set to be dropped by coach Vincenzo Montella for the rest of the season while a sale this winter is not out of the question.

According to reports in Italy, Neto is being lined up as the successor to Gianluigi Buffon at the Bianconeri.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, who will be available on a free transfer in July, while Roma are also thought to be keen.

Meanwhile, Montella has said he had yet to decide whether Neto will play in Tuesday's Serie A clash with Parma and indicated that Ciprian Tatarusanu would become his first choice for the rest of the season.

He told a news conference, reported on the club's official website: "I don't have any problems about fielding a player whose contract is expiring, and I've shown that before.

"But this time it's a goalkeeper, and it's something that has come about too soon for my liking.

"Even if it was already in the air for a while, it has been made official far too soon and this causes the coach and the team an even greater inconvenience. This will play a role in my decision, and I'll see which way I lean. It's an extremely difficult choice.

"I don't have any doubts about his professionalism, but I do have a few doubts about his serenity, particularly when it comes to home games.

"Tatarusanu is a great goalkeeper, and he could easily be our first choice. If we didn't have Tata, it would have been a much easier decision."
