Only a masochist would hope for a penalty shootout to decide an A-League championship.
But should the dreaded occur in Sunday night's showpiece match, at least it would give redemption goalkeepers Liam Reddy and Andrew Redmayne a chance to shine.
The two goalkeepers have had their share of detractors through their careers.
Reddy, 37, is the definition of a journeyman having called a record seven different A-League clubs home during his well-travelled career.
Sunday night will be the Perth gloveman's first grand final in two decades.
Redmayne, 30, was once an Arsenal junior before studying under Mark Bosnich at Central Coast.
He left a mediocre spell at Melbourne Heart behind to become one of the league's best custodians at Sydney FC and helping the Sky Blues to their recent swag of trophies.
Bosnich, the popular ex-Socceroos gloveman who played at the highest level abroad, said Redmayne's growth had impressed him mightily.
"In the past, I thought his penalty saving wasn't what it could be," the Fox Sports host told AAP.
"This season, he's really really stepped up. And that can be what it comes down to.
"It could be the stage where the goalkeepers really shine."
Bosnich has also seen much to like in Reddy, who has become part of the country's best rearguard and starred in the Glory's semi-final triumph over Adelaide, making four penalty saves and converting his own effort in the shootout.
"He's gone up to a different level," Bosnich said.
"His kicking has always been excellent. His decision making, sometimes in the past, has sort of been been a hit and miss. That's improved out of sight.
"Last week and the penalties ... that took a lot of nerve.
"It's not easy, especially at that time when you're tired and also with the pressure that's involved so I mean, he really came up trumps."
