Hamburg fans have launched a petition to sign Northern Ireland attacker Will Grigg after the striker became one of the stars of Euro 2016 -- without playing a minute of football.
Wigan Athletic striker Grigg remained on the bench throughout Northern Ireland's passage into the round of 16, where they were narrowly beaten by Wales. Upon the national team's return to Northern Ireland, Grigg received a hero's welcome by the fans in Belfast, who used the opportunity to sing the "Will Grigg's On Fire" song one more time.
The chant has long swapped over to other countries, and in Germany the fans of Bundesliga club Hamburger SV have now launched a petition to sign Grigg to solve their problems in attack.
"Will Grigg's market value is at €1.5m according to Transfermarkt.de," the petition said.
"The deadly striker could fill a well-known sporting gap, and moreover enjoys an international reputation and would probably generate several times the fee in merchandise. Let alone the atmosphere in the stadium."
