Transfer Rater: Federico Bernardeschi to Man United; Nikola Milenkovic to Man City

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the Whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Gary Cahill to Sheffield Wednesday

Cahill's anticipated departure from Chelsea could come sooner than expected with Championship club Wednesday ready to make an approach in January, say the Sun. Cahill, 32, is out of contract next summer and out of favour with Blues manager Maurizio Sarri and could request a transfer in the new year if he doesn't start playing more. Cahill was a boyhood Owls fans, while former club Aston Villa are also interested, although the centre-back would reportedly prefer to stay in the Premier League.

Benjamin Pavard to Barcelona

Stuttgart may be determined to hold onto the World Cup winner but, given his release clause is just £31 million, Pavard's representatives have been offering him around to clubs across Europe. Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona are the latest after Bayern Munich but the Spanish champions gave a lukewarm response having spent £31m on a versatile French defender of their own in the summer, Clement Lenglet. Pavard is reportedly not overly keen on a move to Bayern as he'll be competing with Joshua Kimmich for the right-back slot.

James Milner to Leeds

Should Marcelo Bielsa secure promotion with Leeds it will earn them more than just Premier League status, it could also prompt the return of Milner to Elland Road. The Daily Star claim that Milner has made it clear should Leeds get out of the Championship, he'll request a move back to his first club and boyhood team. Milner, who left Leeds in 2004, is out of contract at Anfield next summer and, as yet, there have been no signs a new deal.

Federico Bernardeschi to Manchester United

The Italian winger has started the season in excellent form for Juventus but United have long held an interest. Calciomercato claim that United's wish to sign the 24-year-old, given their desire to bring in a right-sided attacker, could prompt the Bianconeri into offering him a new contract, even though he's only one year into a five-year deal. Such as been Bernardeschi's form at the start of the season he's forced Paulo Dybala to the bench.

Nikola Milenkovic to Manchester City

Fiorentina centre-back Milenkovic has been one of the outstanding defenders in Serie A this season and Premier League champions City have begun scouting the 20-year-old, say Calciomercato. Chelsea are also reportedly interested and have an excellent relationship with Milenkovic's agent, Fali Ramadani. City, though, are in the market for a new central defender due to Vincent Kompany's advancing years and injuries and Pep Guardiola plans to watch Milenkovic's first hand.
