Former Sporting Gijon midfielder Xavi Torres joins Perth Glory

Perth Glory now have three Spaniards on their list after signing former La Liga midfielder Xavi Torres for the 2017-18 A-League season.

The 30-year-old spent last season playing for Sporting Gijon, after previous stints at Barcelona, Malaga, Levante, Getafe and Real Betis.

During his time at Barcelona, Torres featured regularly for the reserve team coached by Pep Guardiola and made his senior debut for the Catalan giants in 2009.

He joins fellow Spaniards Diego Castro and recruit Andreu at Perth Glory.

Castro gave Torres a glowing endorsement when the club was considering signing the Spaniard.

The pair played together at Getafe.

Torres flew into Perth with his partner over the weekend and will put pen to paper once he passes his medical.

"I'm really excited to be here," he said.

"I have heard good things about the club and the league from Diego and Kenny Lowe and now I want to win things with Perth Glory."
