TROON, Scotland -- Great Britain's golf team will be at full strength for this summer's Olympics after it was confirmed Danny Willett and Justin Rose will contest the men's event in Rio.
Solheim Cup stalwart Catriona Matthew and Charley Hull will represent Team GB in the women's competition on Rio's new Olympic course.
Masters champion Willett and former U.S. Open winner Rose are two stand-out names in a men's field that has been hit by the withdrawals of a host of stars, with the world's top four of Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy all announcing they would skip golf's return to the Olympics.
"It's brilliant to be able to bring new faces into Team GB in a sport that has not appeared at the Games for over a century," said Team GB's chef de mission Mark England.
"Britain has a fantastic tradition in the sport and I know the team are excited to be part of a new experience for this generation of golfers.
"In Justin, Danny, Catriona and Charley we also have a team capable of doing great things in Rio next month."
The likes of Day and McIlroy have cited fears over the Zika virus affecting the region as the reason behind their withdrawals, but world No. 9 Willett insisted he was committed to representing his country in Brazil.
"It will be a huge honour to represent Team GB at the Olympics," he said. "It comes at a busy point in our year so I'm hoping to be playing well going into it. I'm really looking forward to it."
