PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State freshman point guard Derrick Low broke a bone in his right foot and will undergo surgery, head coach Dick Bennett said Tuesday.
Low, who suffered the injury during practice Sunday, was scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday. The 6-foot-1 guard could be out for six to eight weeks, WSU athletic officials said.
Low, a top player from Honolulu, Hawaii, had been expected to
take over for Marcus Moore in running the Cougars' offense. Moore
graduated after last season.
Another freshman, 6-9 center Chris Henry from Santa Ana, Calif.,
dislocated his right ankle in a pickup game Oct. 12, Bennett said.
He is expected to be out four to six weeks, officials said.
Low and Henry are among six freshmen recruited by Bennett this
season.
"It's an unfortunate start of the season," said Bennett, who directed the Cougars to a 13-16 record in his first season at WSU last year.
