Mark Gottfried's jump called off

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina State basketball coach Mark Gottfried's planned parachute jump into Carter-Finley Stadium has been called off because of weather concerns.

The Wolfpack's first-year coach had planned to take a tandem jump with a member of the ROTC Ranger parachute team at halftime of the South Alabama-NC State football game Saturday night as part of "Military Appreciation Day."

Team officials said Friday night that the forecast for Saturday night is for a 2,300-foot ceiling. They say a minimum ceiling of 6,000 feet is required for a tandem jump.

Gottfried said he was "certainly more disappointed than relieved," and both he and the school said they hope to reschedule.
