Blue Jays replace Devon Travis on ALCS roster with Justin Smoak

CLEVELAND -- The Toronto Blue Jays will be without starting second baseman Devon Travis for the remainder of the playoffs after an MRI confirmed a bruised bone in his right knee. The Jays have replaced Travis on their American League Championship Series roster with first baseman Justin Smoak.

Darwin Barney started at second base for Game 2 on Saturday. Toronto also has Ryan Goins as an option at second.

Travis is ineligible to return even if the Blue Jays make the World Series, per postseason rules. The commissioner's office had to approve Travis' injury as real. The pre-existing issue limited Travis to one game in the ALDS; he started Game 1 of the ALCS, but had to leave in the fifth inning.
