Angels announce 13 non-roster invites to spring training

The Los Angeles Angels invited 13 non-roster players to spring training on Thursday, including top first-base prospect Matt Thaiss.

Thaiss, 21, is the Angels' No. 2 prospect, according to ESPN's Keith Law. The 2016 first-round pick (16th overall) put up .292/.361/.462 averages with six homers and 43 RBIs in 67 games between the Rookie League Orem Owlz and Class A Burlington Bees last season.

Another name of note among the invitees is former top prospect Manny Banuelos. The once-promising left-hander's career was derailed by injuries over the last several years. Banuelos, 25, last appeared in the majors in 2015 with the Atlanta Braves before only making 14 starts in the minors in 2016.

Here are the other 11 non-roster players who will be in big league camp:

  • SS David Fletcher

  • C Taylor Ward

  • C Jack Kruger
