The Boston Red Sox signed free agent right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin to a minor league contract on Saturday.
Chacin, 31, has been on the injured list since July with a right oblique strain and was released by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. He threw a bullpen session for the Red Sox on Friday.
"I just saw part of the bullpen," manager Alex Cora said. "The slider's still good. Good fastball command. He's healthy."
In 19 starts this season, Chacin has a 5.79 ERA with 80 strikeouts and 39 walks.
