Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a grand slam and drove in six runs, and the Dominican Republic clinched a spot in the World Baseball Classic quarterfinals with a 10-1 win over Israel on Monday in Miami.
Tatis homered in the second inning on a 78.5 mph changeup off Ryan Prager, standing at home plate and admiring his no-doubt drive over the left-field wall, then added a two-run single in the seventh. Geraldo Perdomo had put the Dominicans ahead with a bases-loaded walk.
Tatis' six RBIs tied Adrian González in 2009 for second most in a WBC game, one behind Ken Griffey Jr.'s record in 2006.
The Dominicans (3-0) top Group D along with Venezuela (3-0), which also clinched a quarterfinal berth due to the Dominicans' win. Venezuela later beat Nicaragua 4-0.
The winner of Wednesday's Venezuela-Dominican Republic game will play South Korea in a quarterfinal in Miami on Friday, The loser will face Shohei Ohtani and Japan at Miami on Saturday.
"We just know there's way more than this," Tatis said. "We have been enjoying the moment. We have been enjoying the success that we have been [getting] on the field. But at the same time, we know there's a bigger goal out there."
Oneil Cruz added a solo homer in the fourth off Zack Weiss, a 115.9 mph drive.
Spencer Horwitz drove in Israel's run with a fourth-inning homer against winner Brayan Bello, the only hit allowed in five innings by Bello, who struck out seven and walked none.
Horwitz and Noah Mendlinger, the top two hitters in the order for Israel (1-2), went a combined 2-for-7, while the rest of the order went 0-for-22.
Puerto Rico 4, Cuba 1: In San Juan, Martín Maldonado hit a three-run double, and five pitchers combined on a two-hitter to help host Puerto Rico clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.
Yankees prospect Elmer Rodríguez pitched three shutout innings, and Mets-turned-Dodgers closer Edwin Díaz struck out two in the ninth for the save.
Cuba (2-1) can still reach the knockout round with a victory over Canada on Wednesday. Puerto Rico (3-0) finishes group play against Canada on Tuesday.
Julio Robaina, who pitched one game for the Astros in 2024, loaded the bases in the second inning on two singles and a walk before Maldonado hit a liner down the third-base line and into the corner to make it 3-0.
Puerto Rico took a 4-0 lead in the fifth on Carlos Cortes' sacrifice fly before Alfredo Despaigne hit an RBI double in the sixth for Cuba.
Maldonado, who announced his retirement last fall, spent 15 years in the major leagues with seven teams, winning a Gold Glove with the Angels in 2017 and the 2022 World Series with the Astros.
Venezuela 4, Nicaragua 0: In Miami, Ronald Acuna Jr. homered and drove in two runs as Venezuela remained unbeaten in Group D.
Starter Yoendrys Gomez struck out three in two innings for the win and was followed by six relievers.
Nicaragua finished 0-4 and remains winless in eight tournament games.
Acuña led off with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Nicaragua catcher Ronald Rivera. Jackson Chourio drove Acuña home with a sacrifice fly.
In the third, Acuña's solo blast made it 2-0. Acuña drove a slider from Danilo Bermudez over the wall in right-center.
That was the only hit allowed by Bermudez, who gave up two runs in four innings.
Duque Hebbert relieved in the fifth and allowed Acuña's RBI single after William Contreras reached on an error and Gleyber Torres walked.
Wilyer Abreu had a sacrifice fly in the sixth to score Luis Arraez.
South Korea 7, Australia 2: In Tokyo, South Korea advanced to the quarterfinals via a complicated tiebreaking system, defeating Australia at the Tokyo Dome.
South Korea, Australia and Taiwan all finished group play at 2-2, but South Korea needed to beat Australia by five runs or more to advance -- and did it.
Australia could have advanced by winning -- or losing by four runs or fewer.
South Korea scored the deciding run in the ninth as Hyun Min Ahn's sacrifice fly plated Hae-Min Park. A throwing error by Australian shortstop Jarryd Dale kept the inning alive and allowed Park to reach third and score the deciding run.
There was still more drama in the bottom of the ninth, when South Korean right fielder Jung Hoo Lee made a diving catch off Rixon Wingrove. The ball looked like a sure double that would have gone to the wall and might have scored an Aussie runner from first to give Australia a four-run loss, which would have been enough to advance.
It marks South Korea's first trip to the quarterfinals of the WBC after three straight failures to get out of pool play.
Bo Gyeong Moon did much of the damage for South Korea with four RBIs, giving him 11 for the tournament. Australia went through three pitchers in the first three innings -- trying to slow the aggressive Koreans.
Ju Young Son picked up the win, and starter Lachlan Wells took the loss.
South Korea raced to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Moon got his third hit and drove in another run in the fifth to put South Korea ahead 5-0. It was his fourth RBI of the game and gave South Korea its first five-run margin.
Australia twice cut its losing margin to four runs, but each time, South Korea came back.
Japan (3-0) closes group play on Tuesday against Czechia (0-3).
Colombia 4, Panama 3: In San Juan, Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a two-run single in a four-run sixth inning as Colombia (1-3) ensured elimination for Panama (1-3) in Group A.
Colombia had already been eliminated.
Panama's Jonathan Araúz exchanged shouts and pushes with manager José Mayorga when the pinch hitter returned to the dugout after grounding out leading off the ninth. Araúz did not run hard out of the batter's box.
Jordan Diaz hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly against Miguel Gomez in the sixth, and Daniel Vellojin added an RBI single.
Jose Caballero homered off Rio Gomez in the bottom half, and Jose Ramos and Christian Bethancourt had RBI singles that cut the deficit to one run in the eighth.
Britain 8, Brazil 1: In Houston, Ian Lewis Jr. homered, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. added two hits with three RBIs to lead Britain to a one-hit victory over Brazil.
The tournament ended for both teams as they failed to advance from Group B. Brazil (0-4) was outscored 47-6 and outhit 46-14 in its four games.
