PHILADELPHIA -- Chicago Bulls point guard Michael Carter-Williams has a bone chip in his left wrist and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Carter-Williams visited with team doctors Wednesday, and a CT scan revealed the small bone chip.
Carter-Williams, who has been out since injuring his left knee (bone bruise) and wrist in a win over the Brooklyn Nets on Oct. 31, is wearing a cast on his left arm, instead of the brace he had been wearing since the injury occurred. On Friday, the team estimated he will miss four to six weeks from the date he suffered the injury.
"He went back to Chicago a couple days ago, we sent him home," Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said before Friday night's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. "He had a little stall in his progress. He'd been getting progressively better then had stalled, still had some swelling [in] his wrist. So he was sent home to go see a hand specialist. It sounds like the initial diagnosis of four to six weeks is the same. He was put in a cast just really to immobilize that wrist so he doesn't do anything to aggravate it and give him a setback. Two weeks he'll get rechecked again and hopefully be on track to get him back soon after that."
Hoiberg didn't sound overly concerned that Carter-Williams would have to miss more time because of the latest setback.
"I don't know if it was one thing that caused the progress to stall," Hoiberg said. "He's been doing great, his knee feels really good right now. He's back doing full activity on the floor as far as running in a straight line and his activity level we'll continue to ramp up as far as working on his legs. That's the good thing about being that it's not his dominant hand. So he'll still be able to get out and shoot with his right hand, get out and shoot, and continue to increase his workload with his legs. He'll be able to stay in pretty good shape, so when that thing is completely healed, he'll be able to get back on the floor for us."
Carter-Williams was acquired by the Bulls in a preseason deal that sent swingman Tony Snell to the Milwaukee Bucks.
