Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal sat out Friday's 118-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets with a sprained right ankle.
Rookie Sheldon McClellan took over Beal's place in the lineup for his third career start. Trey Burke relieved McClellan off the bench and finished the game with a season-high 27 points.
Even though Beal didn't play against Brooklyn, coach Scott Brooks said it was a "mild'' sprain for the 23-year-old guard. Brooks said Beal, who's considered day to day, felt better Thursday morning after spraining his ankle Wednesday night and was making progress.
The injury occured late in the first quarter of Wednesday night's 111-105 win over the Indiana Pacers. He took a foul by Monta Ellis while driving for a layup.
"Everything is going the right direction with him,'' Brooks said Friday, adding that a Beal returning Monday in Houston hadn't been ruled out.
Beal is averaging 21.8 points and 3.6 assists per game this season.
