Flashback: Gronk rehabbing like only Gronk can (0:18)

Rob Gronkowski is in high spirits after having surgery for a herniated disk, joking that he's ready for the dance floor as he rehabs. (0:18)

Rob Gronkowski is out of back surgery, with the star New England Patriots tight end posting a video Friday night on Instagram showing him -- in hospital garb -- walking with the assistance of a walker while accompanied by his father.

"Dance floor tomorrow night, here I come," Gronkowski says in the video.

He also wrote in the post, referencing the song lyric: "Can't nobody hold me down ... Oo no I got to keep on movin'."

Added Gronkowski's father, Gordon: "Step 1, we have the kid on his feet. He's back in action."

The surgery took place in Los Angeles.

In a joint statement with Gronkowski's family, the Patriots said Thursday that they didn't expect the tight end back this season but would make an official decision after Friday's procedure.

Gronkowski's injury was traced to the big hit he absorbed from Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas on Nov. 13.
