Code-hopper Charlotte Caslick suffers fractured spine in NRLW

Sydney Roosters star recruit Charlotte Caslick has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2020 NRLW season with back fractures.

The Australia rugby sevens star has played both games for the Roosters so far this season, with the Tri-Colours having already booked a grand-final berth against Brisbane despite still having one more round-robin fixture to play.

The loss of the impressive Caslick comes as a blow for the Roosters as they chase a first NRLW premiership.

In a short statement released on Wednesday the Roosters announced the 25-year-old had sustained two small fractures in her lumbar spine.

It is understood the injury could take up to five weeks to recover from, and it is unclear how it will affect her rugby union commitments.

The Olympic gold medallist will miss Saturday's game with the Broncos and the grand final the following week.

"Extremely disappointed to be rule out of the remainder of the NRLW season due to two fractures in my lumbar spine," she wrote on Instagram.

"As much as I'd love to be able to finish the season with the girls I have so much faith in them to bring home their first premiership!

"I've enjoyed my short rugby league stint and I'm so grateful to the Sydney Roosters for giving me this opportunity.

"Thanks for all the love, I'm okay and will be cheering for the girls from the stands."

Caslick will remain with the Roosters squad in a support role until the end of the 2020 season, the club said.
