Four-try Paps haul helps Storm to victory

Melbourne superstar Ryan Papenhuyzen almost single-handedly put Brisbane to the sword, scoring four tries in just 11 minutes en route to a 40-6 victory.

Also adding four conversions, Papenhuyzen's first-half tally of 24 points was the most by any player in a half since 1980.

The 22-year-old lit up AAMI Park on Good Friday, turning the match on its head after a bright start by the Broncos who led until the 25th minute.

Enter Papenhuyzen.

Centre Justin Olam managed a backhand off-load to Josh Addo-Carr, who put the flying fullback in to score his first.

Olam, making amends for bombing Melbourne's chance to beat Penrith at the death last round, then broke through the defence, with Papenhuyzen ready and waiting.

His third came when he backed up a charge by Nelson Asofa-Solomona, who made a massive impact off the bench.

Brandon Smith and Jahrome Hughes then found some space in the 36th minute and Papenhuyzen came flying through to send the 14,135-strong crowd into raptures.

The 2020 Clive Churchill medallist added the extras for a 24-6 half-time lead.

His first-half heroics over-shadowed a two-try haul in the second half by Storm winger George Jennings, while Cameron Munster also touched down.

Brisbane looked on top early with Tom Deardon, who was a late halfback switch for Brodie Croft, having a hand in their sixth-minute try.

He got a pass away to winger Xavier Coates, who burnt Addo-Carr and raced 70 metres to touch down.

Melbourne were uncharacteristically poor, only completing seven of their first 13 sets, but they then completed their next seven heading into half-time to lay the platform for the emphatic win.
