The Las Vegas Aces have attained two more picks for Monday's WNBA draft, the team announced Sunday.
The Aces made a deal with the Minnesota Lynx to get the No. 8 pick in the first round and pick No. 13, which is the first selection in the second round. Las Vegas now has five selections in this draft, adding these two picks to Nos. 11, 23 and 35. The draft will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET from New York.
"This trade with Minnesota gives us the opportunity to acquire the players to further strengthen our talented veteran team," Aces general manager Natalie Williams said in a statement Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Lynx will get 2023 first- and second-round picks from the Aces. The Lynx still have two picks left in the 2022 draft, Nos. 22 and 28, but currently have just over $12,000 in salary-cap space remaining for this season.
"We believe this year's draft is a good draft," Minnesota coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve said in a statement. "However, with the players that we currently have under contract and the limited roster space remaining, we made the decision to turn our attention to future opportunities."
