Memphis women add scoring punch with ex-UT Martin star Ashia Jones

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis has added one of the nation's most prolific scorers in forward Ashia Jones, who was dismissed from Tennessee Martin's team last month.

Jones averaged 23.4 points per game this past season to rank fourth among all Division I women's players. In a school release this week announcing Jones' addition, Memphis said she probably will miss the 2015-16 season because of NCAA transfer rules before playing for the Tigers in 2016-17.

UT Martin coach Kevin McMillan announced June 19 that Jones wouldn't return because "she has not been able to abide by the standards we set for our program on a consistent basis."

Memphis coach Melissa McFerrin said in a release that Jones "understands our expectations" and that she "brings a unique combination of defensive passion, competitiveness and scoring ability."
