Brianna Turner rehabs shoulder, tries to avoid season-ending surgery

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame forward Brianna Turner will be out several weeks as she tries to rehabilitate an injured right shoulder so she can avoid season-ending surgery, coach Muffet McGraw said Thursday.

Turner, the Atlantic Coast Conference preseason player of the year, was averaging 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds for the third-ranked Irish (7-0) before injuring the shoulder during practice last week, forcing her to miss the past three games.

She led the nation last season in field goal percentage at 65.2 percent. It's the same shoulder she injured last season, forcing her to miss three games.

McGraw said a decision on whether forward Taya Reimer can play against top-ranked Connecticut (5-0) will likely be made before the game Saturday. Reimer has been slowed by a sore right Achilles.
