Angel Reese, the No. 2 overall prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Class of 2020, has committed to Maryland, she announced Friday night.
"I want to win a national championship, and Maryland has the pieces in place," Reese told espnW.
Reese also had been considering South Carolina, USC, Syracuse and Tennessee. She said Maryland coach Brenda Frese had been recruiting her since she was an eighth-grader.
"She is the decision-maker there and she has always been there, wherever I have played. I built a relationship with her," said Reese, who plays for St. Frances Academy in Maryland. "I also wanted to have my parents, my grandparents, my high school teammates and my Team Takeover teammates to have the chance to see me play, too. Last but not least is that I want to be in the field of broadcasting and journalism, and Maryland gives me that opportunity."
A 6-foot-3 power forward, Reese is the second-ranked prospect in the Class of 2020 behind UConn commit Paige Bueckers.
Reese is the first commit for Maryland in the Class of 2020. The Terrapins had the fifth-ranked recruiting class in 2019 by landing Ashley Owusu, Diamond Miller, Zoe Young and Faith Masonius.
