UConn Huskies off until Jan. 19 as next two games postponed

UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma's chance to pass late Tennessee coach Pat Summitt in career victories will have to wait, as the No. 4 Huskies' games against Seton Hall on Wednesday and Villanova on Saturday in Storrs, Connecticut, have been postponed.

Wednesday's postponement is out of "an abundance of caution" because the Huskies just played Providence on Saturday, and the Friars' program is now on a COVID-19 pause. UConn won that game 87-50 to give Auriemma his 1,098th career victory, tying Summitt.

Villanova is also now on a COVID-19 pause, which postponed the Wildcats' scheduled game Saturday at UConn. Villanova's games against Providence on Wednesday and No. 19 DePaul on Jan. 20 also have been postponed.

For now, UConn's next scheduled game is Jan. 19 at home vs. Butler. On Jan. 21, the Huskies are scheduled to face Tennessee (ESPN2, 7 p.m. ET) in their first trip to Knoxville since 2006. UConn and Tennessee played annually from 1995-2007, but then Summitt ended the regular-season series. The programs haven't met in the NCAA tournament since the 2004 national championship game.

They played for the first time in 13 years last season in Hartford, Connecticut. It's not known yet if the resumption of the series will extend beyond this year.
