UConn adds home-and-home series with NC State, extends current series with South Carolina

The UConn women's basketball team added a home-and-home series with NC State and extended its series with South Carolina two more years, the schools announced on Monday.

The new agreements will see UConn host NC State and South Carolina during the 2022-23 season while traveling to play both teams on the road in 2023-24.

UConn is already scheduled to play at South Carolina during the 2021-22 season as part of a previously scheduled home-and-home series. The Huskies beat the then-No. 1 Gamecocks, 63-59, in overtime at Gampel Pavilion last season.

Both UConn and NC State were No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament this past season. The Huskies (28-2) made their 13th consecutive Final Four appearance, falling in the national semifinals to Arizona. The Wolfpack (22-3) lost in the Sweet 16 to Indiana.

UConn and NC State last met in the 2007 Sweet 16, won by the Huskies, when legendary Wolfpack coach Kay Yow made her final NCAA tournament appearance. She died in January 2009.

In all, the programs have met eight times, with UConn holding a 6-2 record. One of the two NC State victories, though, was a landmark win for Yow and the Wolfpack, as they defeated UConn in the 1998 Elite Eight to make the program's only Final Four appearance.

UConn is 9-1 all-time vs. South Carolina.
