Former Florida State guard Morgan Jones has joined Louisville as a graduate transfer, the Cardinals announced Friday.
Jones, a 6-2 guard from Jonesboro, Georgia, was a three-year starter at Florida State and two-time all-ACC first-team selection. She averaged a team-high 13.8 points per game on 46% shooting last season, to go along with 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. She also led the team with 33 steals and was second with 30 blocks.
During her time in Tallahassee, Jones also made the all-ACC defensive team in 2020-21 and was a two-time WBCA honorable mention All-American.
"We are very excited to add Morgan Jones to our Louisville family," Louisville head coach Jeff Walz said in a statement. "She is not just an extremely talented basketball player, but is an exceptional person. Morgan has high goals on and off the court and we look forward to helping her achieve them."
Jones' addition marks just the most recent of Walz's forays into the transfer portal, where he has had remarkable success as of late. Three of last season's starters -- Kianna Smith, Emily Engstler and Chelsie Hall -- were transfers from Cal, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, respectively. Smith and Engstler were drafted into the WNBA last week, and Hall ran out of eligibility.
With those three leaving the program, and sophomore Ramani Parker opting to transfer, Walz was expected to search for replacements in the portal to build around his remaining pieces, including major contributors last season from Hailey Van Lith, Olivia Cochran and Mykasa Robinson.
With Jones now in the fold, the Cardinals will look to return to the Final Four, where they advanced to for the fourth time in program history this past season before falling to eventual champion South Carolina in the national semifinal.
Jones departs Florida State following the retirement of longtime coach Sue Semrau, who was replaced by program alum and former assistant/associate head coach Brooke Wyckoff.
