The top 25 girls high school basketball rankings actually have some results behind them now, as several teams have played their first games of the 2024-25 season.
Montverde (FL) maintains the No. 1 spot, starting the year off at 4-0. Its loaded roster has seen standout performances from 2026 ESPN 60 No. 1 player Saniyah Hall, as well as 2025 ESPN 100 No. 4 senior Agot Makeer, who has yet to commit to a college program for next season.
The story of the season thus far though is the jump of No. 2 Ontario Christian. The young roster is led by 2027 ESPN 25 No. 1 recruit Kaleena Smith, along with her fellow sophomore Dani Robinson, two freshmen -- Sydney Douglas and Tatianna Griffin -- and uncommitted senior Alanna Neale. This group went to Texas and played two games at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest -- and routed their opponents, Duncanville and Lubbock Monterey (who has 2025 ESPN 100 No. 1 player Aaliyah Chavez).
Elsewhere, Westtown saw major statistical contributions from 2027 ESPN 25 No. 4 sophomore Jordyn Palmer in a win over Audenreid. She had 36 points, while teammate Jessie Moses (2027 ESPN 25 No. 15) had 21 points.
The anticipation for the start of high school basketball in the DMV area, which tips at the end of this week, is high: Top 25 teams like Bishop McNamara, Sidwell Friends, Bishop Ireton and Bullis School will begin play.
