Former WWE wrestler Ashley Massaro has died at age 39, WWE confirmed Thursday in a statement on its website.
"We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro," the WWE said in the statement. "She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley's family and friends."
According to a Suffolk County (N.Y.) Police Department spokesperson, officers responded to a report of a sick or injured person in Smithtown, New York, at approximately 5:20 a.m. Thursday. The officers there found Massaro, who was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives determined the death was non-criminal, the spokesperson said.
Massaro won WWE's "Diva Search" in 2005 and was best known for her time as the valet for tag team champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick. She wrestled on two WrestleMania cards, including once for the WWE women's title in 2007.
Massaro, who grew up in Babylon, New York, was also a castmate on the CBS competitive reality show "Survivor: China" in 2007 and appeared on the cover of Playboy that same year.
In 2016, she joined a class-action lawsuit against WWE, alleging she had been sexually assaulted on a U.S. military base in 2006 during a WWE tour. The suit was dismissed last year.
