2010 numbers: He was third in the ACC with 10 sacks and seventh with 15.5 tackles for loss. He was fourth on the team with 59 tackles, and had 12 quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles. He also had two pass breakups.

Making the case for Coples: Talk about a player who rose to the occasion. Because of injuries and suspensions, Coples was forced to play out of position (he's a natural end), and he was one of only two players to start every game on defense. Robert Quinn was supposed to be the Tar Heels' main sack man, and without Marvin Austin, somebody had to compensate for a huge loss in production. Coples got it done.
