2010 numbers: He finished third on the team in tackles with 79 and tied for the team lead with three interceptions. He also had 4.5 tackles for loss, a team-high for defensive backs. He scored one of Miami’s two defensive touchdowns with a 22-yard interception return against Florida A&M.

Making the case for Armstrong: Remember, this isn’t about where he’s projected to be taken in the NFL draft, but he’s good enough to be the first safety chosen. At 6-foot-4, 215 pound, he’s a physically gifted athlete with All-American potential. His interception return for a touchdown last year exemplified what he’s capable of and why there is so much preseason hype surrounding him. He can make plays all over the field, including in opponents' backfields. He has been a highly touted player since he was in high school, but he could really be a difference-maker this fall.
