Bryson Allen-Williams (Ellenwood, Ga./Cedar Grove) started his weekend with a visit to the University of Alabama on Saturday. He finished it as the MVP of the linebackers at the VTO Sports Prep 100 camp in Atlanta on Sunday.

The visit itself marked his first time in Tuscaloosa since the ESPN Watch List linebacker earned a scholarship offer at the Crimson Tide’s first junior day.

“It went great,” Allen-Williams said. “I got to sit down and talk to Coach [Kirby] Smart and Coach [Nick] Saban. I personally spent a lot of one-on-one time with the coaches. That’s something I really enjoyed about it.

“Coach Saban told me I am one of the top guys on their list, and they want me to come to Alabama and develop into a better player.

“Coach Smart showed showed me how I would be used on defense. He told me I remind him of C.J. Mosley and Dont’a Hightower. Basically, I’m able to play first and second down inside the box and third and fourth down outside as a pass rusher.”

Allen-Williams saw the finished weight room for the first time, and he also caught up with former teammate and current Alabama offensive lineman Brandon Greene.

“[Brandon] told me it’s hard work, but it’s an opportunity for you,” Allen-Williams said. “When the coaches tell you that they want you, they don’t play around. They’re not going to blow any steam in your ear.”

Even though the visit went well, it wasn’t enough to propel the Tide ahead of South Carolina, his current leader. Much of that is a testament to Gamecocks assistant coach Lorenzo Ward.

“[South Carolina has] been my leader since early in the process because of how early they came in and because of how Coach Ward has laid out my future as a Gamecock,” he said.

Georgia rounds out Allen-Williams’ top three. He visited UGA last month for the Dawgs’ junior day where he received a scholarship offer.

“During my visit to Georgia, I got to sit down with Coach O (Kirk Olivadotti), and he basically told me they could play six or seven linebackers on the field at the same time,” Allen-Williams said. “He feels like I can help any team with my pass-rushing skills.”

The Peach State native will continue his tour of the SEC with a visit to Tennessee this weekend. He’s set to return to South Carolina the weekend after that, and he also plans to visit both UCLA and USC during his spring break.

Allen-Williams wants to make another trip to Alabama in April for the Tide’s spring game.

Weekend notes

New Orleans St. Augustine teammates Leonard Fournette and Jermaine Roberts did not make the trip to Alabama this weekend as expected. Roberts said they plan to be in town next weekend when the Tide start practice...ESPN Watch List defensive end Dante Sawyer also did not visit UA on Saturday. He originally tweeted out that he was visiting...Mississippi wide receiver Jesse Jackson did visit over the weekend and earned a scholarship offer from the Tide. The coaches believe he can play wide receiver or defensive back at the next level.
