MLB Rumor Central: Phillies mulling outfield changes

With a league-low .075 average from his left fielders and 27th-ranked .178 average from his right fielders, Philadelphia Phillies manager Pete Mackanin told reporters, including Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, that changes could be coming in the near future.

"You can't get around it," Mackanin said. "It's not good.

"In the short term, if we don't show improvement, we'll probably make a change," he continued. "We have to either get those guys going or do something."

The primary sources of the problem have been Peter Bourjos (.189 average), Cedric Hunter (.088) and Tyler Goeddel (.077). Mackanin even tried Darin Ruf in left field on Saturday, but the 29-year-old went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts playing the position.

Zolecki lists Will Venable and David Lough as possible corner outfield options for the Phillies moving forward. Both are currently playing for Triple-A Lehigh Valley and have major league experience, unlike top prospect Nick Williams, who Mackanin said isn't an option.
