Could Carl Crawford return to the Tampa Bay Rays?

Rumor Central

The Rays “would at least talk about a reunion” if Crawford was interested, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

The 34-year-old Crawford was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers last week with approximately $35 million remaining on a contract that runs through 2017. The Dodgers would be on the hook for the bulk of the remaining salary, making Crawford a feasible fit for the cost-conscious Rays.

Tampa Bay has endured a rash of outfield injuries, with Kevin Kiermaier, Steven Souza Jr. and Brandon Guyer all on the disabled list.

Crawford opened the season on the disabled list for a back injury and was batting just .185 with a .230 on-base percentage in 81 at-bats when he was designated for assignment. He became expendable due to the emergence of outfielder Trayce Thompson.
