The Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers have been in talks about a possible trade involving Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler, reports MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

Rumor Central

The 34-year-old Kinsler has a guaranteed one year, $11 million remaining on his contract, which has a $12 million team option or $5 million buyout for 2018. With the Tigers looking to cut payroll, it would make sense to use Kinsler as a trade chip, considering he could be a free agent after next season.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that major league sources confirmed the Tigers and Dodgers have discussed Kinsler. However, Rosenthal writes, trading him could get complicated: Kinsler has a partial no-trade list, and the Dodgers are one of 10 teams that would require Kinsler's permission for a trade, said his agent, Jay Franklin.

According to Franklin, Kinsler will approve a trade only if he's granted an extension on his current deal, Rosenthal writes.

Kinsler is coming off a season in which he slashed .288/.348/.484 with 28 home runs -- the third-highest total of his career -- 83 RBIs, 29 doubles and 14 stolen bases. He was awarded his first career Gold Glove last week.

Morosi tweets that Kinsler would be an ideal fit for the Dodgers, noting that he has a career .306/.372/.507 slash line against left-handed pitching and had an .811 OPS when batting leadoff in 2016.

Morosi reports the Tigers are interested in Dodgers prospect Cody Bellinger, who is the kind of player Detroit is looking for: a young, left-handed hitter with power. Bellinger has a 1.012 OPS in the Arizona Fall League.

Another option at second base for the Dodgers could be the Minnesota Twins' Brian Dozier, if the Twins decide to take advantage of his current value, writes ESPN's Buster Olney. Los Angeles could also re-sign Chase Utley, who is currently a free agent.
