The New York Yankees are interested in a former New York Mets castoff on a minor league deal.
George A. King III of the New York Post reports the Yankees are looking at shortstop Ruben Tejada, who was released by the Mets last March before landing with both the Cardinals and Giants. He hit a combined .167 with a .247 OBP in 63 games last season.
The 27-year-old Tejada had his best season in 2012, when he hit .289 with a .333 OBP in 464 at-bats. The Yankees likely view Tejada, who has played three positions, as possible infield insurance.
