The Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros are involved in discussions on Chicago White Sox ace Jose Quintana, reports Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, citing sources.

According to Rosenthal's sources, the White Sox are having trade talks about Quintana daily.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Pirates "have been in trade conversations for weeks" about the 27-year-old left-hander, but the talks are unresolved.

The Astros, in need of a top-tier starter, might be able to meet the White Sox's asking price, given the strength of their current lineup, Olney writes.

In 32 starts last season, Quintana went 13-12 with a 3.20 ERA, striking out 181 batters across 208 innings. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his five-year career.

Quintana is one of the top potential trade chips for the White Sox as they continue to rebuild. Chicago has a steep asking price for the southpaw and has remained firm in what he'll cost, according to Rosenthal. The White Sox could move Quintana at the trade deadline if their cost isn't met this winter.

The New York Yankees are long shots to land Quintana, Rosenthal tweets, noting that the Yankees are less willing to move their top prospects.
