Melvin Upton Jr. appears to have the edge over Ryan Goins for one of the final spots on the Toronto Blue Jays' roster, reports Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com.

Rumor Central

Upton is hitting just .207 with a .233 OBP in 29 spring at-bats, but Chisholm says Upton is the favorite because of his ability to start in left field against southpaws. The 32-year-old Upton hit a combined .238/.291/.402 for the Blue Jays and San Diego Padres last season.

Goins also has struggled in Grapefruit League play with a .180 BA and .241 OBP in 50 spring at-bats.

Manager John Gibbons says an official announcement on the final roster will not come before this weekend’s exhibition games in Montreal.
