There is “mutual interest” in a reunion between Vance Worley and the Baltimore Orioles, reports Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun.
The possibility of a return emerged Wednesday when Worley, the Orioles' primary long reliever last season, was released by the Washington Nationals. Worley was believed to be a favorite to land a similar role with the Nats, but had a 4.80 ERA in eight Grapefruit League games.
The 29-year-old Worley compiled a 3.53 ERA over 86⅔ innings and 35 appearances in Baltimore.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter seemed open to the idea of bringing back the right-hander, telling Encina: "It’s like he’s been through camp with us. In fact, he’s been through the fire of the season."
If the Orioles sign Worley, that would call into question the job security of Tyler Wilson and/or Vidal Nuno, who are in the mix for long-relief roles.
